ReplyDeleteI kept thinking about the comments about fashion vs authenticity... that's tough.
Personally, I love the whole farm to table movement and a dear friend who was a food critic for 18 years is a huge proponent...
And we have laid out our own garden for this spring... thank goodness my husband LOVES to garden...
The issue of restaurant-ware and practicality is tough...
The coffee mugs I made for a fairly high end restaurant/bar here either broke or walked...
That said, durability is definitely a problem and YES chefs want the FOOD to be the star...
In our home, we eat off of all handmade that we have collected...
Chipping remains an issue but it is worth it to us....
However, it is not the norm around here... people find it so "cool" at my house that we do that...
Friends ask me to make them a mug "like this one"...usually Sam Taylor or Julia Galloway, etc...
I tell them that is not what I do... because that is what THIS artist does...
and I know I have been responsible for several on-line sales as I have sent them off to purchase elsewhere with
website addresses in hand as they left my house... I love to do that...
The farm to table right now is certainly the way things are TRENDING but hopefully that is the beginning of something...
vs an actual TREND.
